Feature Friday

Congratulations, you made it through another week in the life of a Saved M.O.M.! Here at Savedmom.com we take time out on Fridays to feature Saved M.O.M.’s. There are so many wonderful mothers that don’t get the recognition they deserve. I am elated to say that this Feature Friday post is dedicated to Mrs. Pearl Sullivan. Mrs. Sullivan currently resides in Lanham, MD. She is a devoted wife and mother of three God-ordained daughters whom are very active in ministry. She partners with her husband in pastoral ministry at the New Beginnings Church of God of Prophecy in Lanham, MD and she has been blessed to have the oversight and/or serve in various ministries of the local church.

Mrs. Sullivan came to know the Lord by way of one of her coworkers many years ago. She recalled, “I met her and two other Christians at my place of employment. One of them smugly questioned me concerning the length of my skirt. At that time in my life, my motto was “show all you can while you can.” I angrily approached the other Christian asking her what she had to say about my skirt and she replied, “Nothing, if that’s what you like.” That knocked the steam right out of me. She remained an effective witness, and I eventually accepted her invitation to a Tuesday night prayer meeting.” Mrs. Sullivan decided to accept her co-workers invitation to church. She went on to say, “When it was time to pray I told her I did not know how to pray. She said, “Just say Jesus.” O my, did something happen to me. Everything she witnessed to me concerning Jesus became alive in my mind and in my body. I saw Him, not personified but I saw Him and he showed me—me. Realizing my condition, I cried aloud “Jesus save me” and He did. Sidebar: I was wearing that mini skirt!”

When asked what being a Saved M.O.M. means to her Mrs. Sullivan stated, “That I have been highly favored and commissioned to bring forth words and deeds that will nurture and sustain our children in their life’s journey.” Her favorite scriptures are John 6:67-69… “Then said Jesus unto the twelve, Will ye also go away? Then Simon Peter answered him, Lord, to whom shall we go? thou hast the words of eternal life. And we believe and are sure that thou art that Christ, the Son of the living God.” After sharing this she said, “My resolve is, no matter what may or may not transpire in my life, I am committed; there is nowhere else for me to go. I am sure and I believe.”

A part of Mrs. Sullivan’s testimony relates to the trials and tribulations she faced in bringing forth life. She explained, “I cried, ached, and prayed to God for a child that I could not seem to have. God spoke to me and told me that I would have a child but I must confess during the process of time I lost faith but God was merciful and I realized His word as spoken in Numbers 23:19. “God is not a man, that he should lie; neither the son of man, that he should repent: hath he said, and shall he not do it? or hath he spoken, and shall he not make it good?” Praise God that six years into marriage her first child was born. Then the second child came (unplanned) twenty-two months later. After the birth of her second child God spoke to her again that she would have three daughters in total. Five years later the third child was born. She said, “I love them all dearly and it is such a blessing to see them used by God. Oh, they have their “break your mama’s heart” moments but mama’s peace is—they are ordained of God.”

Mrs. Sullivan wanted to leave these words of wisdom with our mothers, ““Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.” (Proverbs 18:21). Moms, we have the authority to speak good and positive things into the lives of all our children. Let’s Do It!” She also shared, “I know the pangs of life and the feelings of “why me.” I have found that in the midst of all the stuff that I endure and all the mistakes I have made, God loves me, right where I am. God loves us and I am commissioned by Him to share this truth. God has birthed in me a “back to the basics” ministry approach. No matter how complicated life’s situations are, the basic truths of God’s word will deliver us from all of them.”

Until our next appointed meeting time. Stay tuned for more words of encouragement and inspiration for M.O.M.’s near and far! Thursday Prayer

It’s Thursday and you know what that means; today is our designated day of prayer. We will pray together today at 6:30 pm. If you are not able to physically make it to the prayer meeting location you can join us in spirit. We are so thankful for God blessing us with another year. We are praying that we have the wisdom to learn from the mishaps of 2009 and we are claiming that 2010 will be our best year yet! We always pray that God’s will is done in the lives of his faithful servants and that millions will receive salvation this year. I would also like for us to pray for Haiti in wake of their recent devastation. In addition to your prayers please donate whatever you can to aid in their time of need. You can visit http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/01/12/haiti-earthquake-relief-h_n_421014.html for a list of organizations collecting donations at this time.

There have been several specific prayers requests submitted for today. Delonda would like for us to stand in agreement with her that her and her family have divine favor as they prepare to relocate. We are also praying that Cheree receives healing in the midst of her cancer battle.

As always we will pray that many mothers will be blessed by this ministry and great works will be done through this ministry. We will continue to stand on our weekly prayer points listed below. It is so important that we stand together in prayer, “For where two or three come together in my name, there am I with them.” (Matthew 18:20).

We will continue to pray that love is the motivating force behind EVERYTHING that we do and that we operate in love at ALL times, especially when we don’t feel like it. For the word tells us, “Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins.” (1 Peter 4:8). The word also says, “My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you.” (John 15:12). If we can just learn to love always, no matter what, things will turn out well and happiness will be sure to follow.

Weekly prayer points are as follows…
We are praying that our family, friends and loved ones receive salvation and live lives that are submitted to the Lord.
We are praying that we maintain health and strength in the midst of it all.
We are praying that our children are always covered by the blood of Jesus and they make Godly decisions and live submitted lives.
We are also standing with all the mothers attached to this ministry and mothers worldwide that God’s will be done in their lives.
Thank you for standing with us and lifting up the prayer requests that have been laid before us. Remember to thank Him in advance. God bless you!

Until our next appointed meeting time. Stay tuned for more words of encouragement and inspiration for M.O.M.’s near and far! Word Wednesday

Today is officially “Word Wednesday” otherwise known as “Hump Day.” We’ve made it half way through yet another week on the wonderful, exciting and bumpy road of motherhood. Therefore, some of us are looking for some encouraging words to make it through the rest of the week with Joy and Peace. At night before my son goes to bed, in addition to reading bible stories, I read him a passage out of Prayers That Avail Much, First Blessings for Your Child by Germaine Copeland. Mommies we have to keep our children prayed up and constantly put Gods Word in their hearts.

Sunday’s passage read, “I pray for the Lord to bless your skills and be pleased with the work of your hands. I thank God for creating a desire in you to work, to do something useful with your own hands so you may have something to share with those in need.” Immediately after reading this passage I started to reflect on a dismal moment that I recently experienced. As we know, during our faith walk we are sometimes attacked in our minds. Well, as I laid in bed a few days ago I was overcome with feelings of worthlessness and negativity. I started to feel as though I wasn’t good enough and that my contribution here on earth was miniscule at best. Soon thereafter I started to pray to God regarding these feelings and I talked to my husband about it as well.

At that very moment my husband began to minister life to me. He started showing me just how important my life and ministry are. I began to remind myself that we were ALL placed on earth with a divine purpose and with the necessary skill set needed to carry out that purpose. This makes me think of something that Moses said as he blessed the tribes in the book of Deuteronomy, “Bless all his skills, O LORD, and be pleased with the work of his hands. Smite the loins of those who rise up against him; strike his foes till they rise no more." (Deuteronomy 33:11). Today I want each of you to know that God has placed greatness on the inside of you. You were born with a purpose for your life and whenever the enemy starts to attack you just remember, “…When the enemy shall come in like a flood, the Spirit of the LORD shall lift up a standard against him. (Isaiah 59:19).

Be Encouraged

Happy Monday to all! Today I'm not posting the typical blog entry. I feel the need to simply post the lyrics to William Becton's Be Encouraged. I hope this helps you through whatever it is that you may be facing today. Enjoy...

Be encouraged
No matter what's going on
He'll make it alright
But you gotta stay strong
Be encouraged
No matter what's going on
He'll make it all right
But you gotta stay strong

Verse
I know right now it's impossible to see
But God is gonna work it out
If you just believe
Remember this one thing while you're going through
If God delivered Daniel, guess what
He'll do the same for you you you you you you

Be encouraged
No matter what's going on
He'll make it alright
But you gotta stay strong
Be encouraged
No matter what's going on
He'll make it all right
But you gotta stay strong

Verse
Hold on, trouble don't last always
These trials are just a test, just a test of your faith
So stand strong and dry your weeping eyes
cause joy comes in the mornin'
and ev'rything is gonna be alright

He'll make it alright
But you gotta stay strong

Feature Friday

Congratulations, you made it through another week in the life of a Saved M.O.M.! Here at Savedmom.com we take time out on Fridays to feature Saved M.O.M.’s. There are so many wonderful mothers that don’t get the recognition they deserve. I have to preface this post with a bit information for you to chew on. The following interview was completed over 2 weeks ago. Then a series of unfortunate events occurred, which kept the feature from getting posted. I am assuming that this young lady is destined to touch many with her walk and something greater was keeping her feature from the masses. So, without further ado, I present to you Mrs. Elise Wilder. Elise currently resides in Atlanta, GA. She is a devoted wife and the mother of an adorable baby boy. She is extremely active at Free Chapel working with the Prayer Ministry, assisting in the Youth Ministry, distributing food to those in need and serving as Small Group attendee and co-lead with her husband.

Elise grew up going to church with her aunt and was baptized during her childhood. As she grew older she started to stray away from living a submitted life unto the Lord. She recalled, “Once I returned home from undergraduate studies, I found myself feeling like I needed something… at this moment of my life I knew something was truly missing. The Lord guided me to do something that would change my life - I began attending Lincoln Avenue’s (in Pasadena, CA) Bible Study, only. The members would ask me to attend Sunday Service but I knew in my heart that the Lord wanted me to maintain this process. All of my life, my involvement in church was just that… pure involvement. I was not serving the Lord because I did not know Him as my personal Savior and Lord.” Elise began to build her spiritual foundation on God’s word instead of getting caught up in the “busyness” of church. She said, “This would cause me to serve the Lord and not man. This walk was very difficult because many of my fellow Christians did not understand and did not agree with excluding Sunday Service from this way of fellowship.” After some time of purely seeking God and His word she started to attend Sunday service as well. Later the Lord led Elise to move to Iowa and there her prayer life grew and she started to seek the Lord on a much deeper level. Elise explained, “I never thought I would ever witness this kind of love but I am so happy that He loves me so much.”

When asked what being a Saved M.O.M. means to her Elise stated, “Being a Saved Mommie On a Mission means various things to me. As a believer it means; God is my Father and Jesus is my Lord & Savior sent to save my life. Through the gift of Salvation, the Lord has given me Eternal Life with Him during this journey, that the Lord has given me. I rely on Him to guide me and to give me strength to be obedient to His purpose for me.” Then Elise went on to explain, “As a Mommie On a Mission (M.O.M.) it means; The Lord has given me an assignment to care for the gift He gave me in my child (and future children). He has given me the responsibility and provided me the wisdom to train up my child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it. (Proverbs 22:6). The Lord has given me the freedom to choose life or death, blessing or cursing… I choose life that both my child and I may live. (Deuteronomy 30:19-20). The Lord has given me the spirit to pray for others. I am lead to place requested at His feet that He will help us as mommies (and our children) to live for Him. (Colossians 1).

Elise’s favorite scripture is I Samuel 30:6 “Now David was greatly distressed … But David strengthened himself in the LORD his God.” (NKJV). Elise wanted to leave our M.O.M.’s with these words… “The Lord has blessed us with wisdom and passion to carry out our mommy duties. And He has given us all talents and skills that we utilize throughout our lives to give Him glory. “Mommies, your children arise up, and call you blessed; your husband also, and he praiseth you.” (Proverbs 31:28). Elise states her life mission as follows, “My mission is to not only edify/exhort others but to educate/teach hurting, misunderstood people to encourage themselves in the Lord and recover all through the Lord’s power. This in turn will encourage the ability to live the life that is directed by the Lord. (I Samuel 30).”

Elise is currently collecting childrens items to aid an orphanage in Haiti. If you have items that you would like to donate please email me at info@savedmom.com.

Yesterday’s passage read, “I ask the Lord God to give you the ability to see obstacles and challenges through eyes of faith as Caleb did. By His power, He has made you more than able to overcome.” As we all know, the challenges and obstacles that life can present to us can seem a bit daunting at times. Although as believers we have the power to overcome every trial that comes our way. We must exercise our faith and trust that God will bring us out with victory every time. When Caleb went with the other eleven men that Moses sent to explore the land of Canaan he had great faith. The others weren’t sure that they could take possession of the land because the people that lived there seemed so powerful, but Caleb knew that they could. Numbers chapter 13 verse 30 went onto explain how Caleb verbally expressed his faith… “Then Caleb silenced the people before Moses and said, "We should go up and take possession of the land, for we can certainly do it."”

This is the kind of faith that we all should have. We need to teach our children to have this kind of faith as well. They must understand that trials and tribulations will surely come, but as long as they see them through eyes of faith as Caleb did, they will always overcome them.

Happy Birthday MLK Jr.

As I sit here listening to the Commemorative Services for MLK Jr., I am reminded of the great man that Martin Luther King Jr. was and just how much his legacy continues to live on. It is so important that we not forget those that came before us and made incomprehensible sacrifices so that we may enjoy the fruits of their labor.

Martin Luther King Jr. accomplished a great deal in his short lived 39 years. He served as an American clergyman, activist and prominent leader in the American civil rights movement. His main legacy was to secure progress on civil rights in the U.S. and he has become a human rights icon. He led the 1955 Montgomery Bus Boycott and helped found the Southern Christian Leadership Conference in 1957, serving as its first president. King's efforts led to the 1963 March on Washington, where he delivered his "I Have a Dream" speech. There, he raised public consciousness of the civil rights movement and established himself as one of the greatest orators in U.S. history.

In 1964, King became the youngest person to receive the Nobel Peace Prize for his work to end racial segregation and racial discrimination through civil disobedience and other non-violent means. King was assassinated on April 4, 1968, in Memphis, Tennessee. He was posthumously awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 1977 and Congressional Gold Medal in 2004; Martin Luther King, Jr. Day was established as a U.S. national holiday in 1986. “Martin Luther King Jr.” Wikipedia Encyclopedia Online. 2001. Wikipedia. Jan. 18, 2010. .

I thank God for Martin Luther King Jr. and all that he sacrificed in an effort to make our world a better place. His legacy inspires me to do great things in the name of humanity, peace and love. I can remember that MLK Jr. quoted Isaiah 40:4-5 in his I Have A Dream Speech by saying, “I have a dream that one day every valley shall be exalted, and every hill and mountain shall be made low, the rough places will be made plain, and the crooked places will be made straight; and the glory of the Lord shall be revealed and all flesh shall see it together.” Oh how I yearn to see the glory of the Lord revealed! Let’s all pay it forward and do our part to make this world a better place.

Yesterday’s passage read, “I pray that the Father will watch over you when I am absent and we are hidden from one another. I ask Him, to cover you with His feathers. Under His wings you shall take refuge. I thank God that you are never alone.” As parents it’s not uncommon for us to worry about our children when they are not in our presence. Although, as Christian parents we can find comfort in knowing that our Father will watch over them in our absence. The Lord our God will never leave or forsake us or our children. “The LORD himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.” (Deuteronomy 31:8).

This is one of the many reasons that it is important that we live submitted lives and cover our children until they can spiritually cover themselves. In the midst of me typing this I just heard about the devastation that has taken place in Haiti. I am going to turn my focus away from this entry to pray for the people of Haiti. Blessed to Be...

Good day to all of you wonderfully made beautiful people! I am extremely elated as I sit down to write today. Over the weekend I celebrated my birthday and enjoyed some much needed fellowship with some of the people I love the most! Thanks to all of you that made this one of my best birthdays thus far. I love you all more than words or actions could ever express. Thank You!

As a child I hated the fact that my birthday was in winter and so close to the holidays. It always seemed as though my friends that had summer birthdays had so many more options than me when it came to celebrating. I could never partake in celebrating outdoors like they could; no pool parties, no amusement parks and no trips to the beach. Also, having a birthday so close to the holidays meant that people were often tired and running low on cash when my birthday came.

Now that I have grown and matured, I can truly say that I appreciate my birthday exactly where it falls on the calendar. It gives me the opportunity to celebrate triple new beginnings; the birth of Jesus, the beginning of a new year on the calendar and the beginning of a new year in my life! Talk about triple blessings!

My birthday weekend got off to a rough start and I let stress and frustration overtake me. Then I had to take a few deep breaths and reflect on the many blessings that I have to be thankful and grateful for. I thank God for the blessings that He promised us in Deuteronomy 28. He explained that if we obey Him and His commandments we will be blessed in many ways. It’s amazing how we can let a shift in circumstances disrupt our joy in a matter of minutes. As children of the Most High God, we must remember that according to Isaiah 54:17 no weapon that is formed against us shall prosper. Then proclaim that “…we are more than conquerors through him that loved us.” (Romans 8:37). So the next time you feel that shift coming in, take a few deep breaths and meditate on those scriptures. Then you will be able to smile and bask in the joy of the Lord.

Thursday Prayer

It’s Thursday and you know what that means; today is our designated day of prayer. We will pray together today at 12 pm. If you are not able to physically make it to the prayer meeting location you can join us in spirit. We are so thankful for God blessing us with another year. We will be praying that we have the wisdom to learn from the mishaps of 2009 and we are claiming that 2010 will be our best year yet! We haven’t received any specific prayer requests for today so we will pray that God’s will is done in the lives of his faithful servants and that millions will receive salvation this year. In addition, I am praying that many mothers will be blessed by this ministry and great works will be done through this ministry. We will also continue to stand on our weekly prayer points listed below.

Monday’s passage read, “I embrace you with God’s love that is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Spirit. May God give you the grace to love Him because He first loved you. I embrace you as God embraces us, and I embrace Him who sent you.” For the last few months now I have been doing my very best to walk in love on a level that I haven’t before. The word love is mentioned over 600 times in the bible, which is a direct indication that love is a very important part of our daily walk. In John 15:9-12 Jesus said, “As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you. Now remain in my love. If you obey my commands, you will remain in my love, just as I have obeyed my Father's commands and remain in his love. I have told you this so that my joy may be in you and that your joy may be complete. My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you.”

Now as parents we have an unconditional love for our children that words can’t even begin to express. How awesome would it be if we could love everyone in this way? I feel that this is what God wants us to strive for; for us to love each other unconditionally and without fail, no matter what. Especially when we don’t feel like it. Not only should we strive to love others in the way that Jesus loves us, but we must teach our children to do the same. I am proclaiming my part in a Love Revolution! Will you stand with me in doing so?

Four Days In

Good day to all of you! It’s so wonderful to enjoy the blessing of another year and another week in the life of... Over the holidays I had the opportunity to spend time with some of the people I love the most. Thanks to my beautiful family and friends for such a wonderful 2009! I’m happy to say that my birthday is quickly approaching and I can’t believe that I am almost… Did you really think that I was going to tell you? LOL!

As we say hello to another year, there are many people that are four days into their resolutions, but will they really last all year long? There is so much controversy over the whole New Years Resolution issue. I don’t necessarily agree with New Years Resolutions. I believe that we should make an effort all year long to improve upon ourselves. Now, don’t get me wrong, it is absolutely wonderful for people to make the decision to progress and to put a plan in motion to do so. I just don’t agree that we have to wait until January 1st to make this happen. We should definitely improve ourselves physically, mentally, financially, and emotionally. Although, it’s most important that we improve upon ourselves spiritually.

We all have been blessed with gifts that must be perfected. Just as Timothy was instructed in 1 Timothy 4 “14Do not neglect your gift, which was given you through a prophetic message when the body of elders laid their hands on you. 15Be diligent in these matters; give yourself wholly to them, so that everyone may see your progress. 16Watch your life and doctrine closely. Persevere in them, because if you do, you will save both yourself and your hearers.”

So as we take time to better ourselves in other areas, let’s not neglect our spiritual growth and development. Now most research shows that it takes about 21 to 28 days to form a habit. So let’s check in at the beginning of February to see how those resolutions are panning out. Be diligent and pray often and I’m sure you will succeed.

Until our next appointed meeting time. Stay tuned for more words of encouragement and inspiration for M.O.M.’s near and far! Happy New Year!

Another year has come to be,
Another blessing for you and me.

I praise God for all that He has done,
Thanks to Him for sending His only son.

Blessings will come and blessings will go,
This is one thing I truly know.

But the Grace and Mercy of God will last always,
Even when we don't deserve good days.

Tomorrow is not promised at all,
So enjoy what you have no matter how small.

John 15:12 was written for all of us to do,
"My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you."

It's time for a renewed mind to come forth,
For you have no idea of the magnitude of its worth.

Praise be to God for this New Year that we are in,
This is definitely our year to win!
