Word Wednesday

Today is officially “Word Wednesday” otherwise known as “Hump Day.” We’ve made it half way through yet another week on the wonderful, exciting and bumpy road of motherhood. Therefore, some of us are looking for some encouraging words to make it through the rest of the week with Joy and Peace. At night before my son goes to bed, in addition to reading bible stories, I read him a passage out of Prayers That Avail Much, First Blessings for Your Child by Germaine Copeland. Mommies we have to keep our children prayed up and constantly put Gods Word in their hearts.

Yesterday’s passage read. “May your eyes be focused and clear, so that you can see exactly what the Lord is calling you to do. I bless you so that you might grasp the immensity of this glorious way of life He has for His children.” After reading this passage I started to think about the fact that so many people have not yet realized their calling and don’t know their purpose in the Lord. I recall asking myself in years past, time and time again, “What is my purpose? Why am I here? What am I supposed to be doing?” Then one day the Lord showed me and I have been able to see things a lot more clearly since. It’s so important that as believers we understand our purpose. In the book of Ephesians Paul wrote, “I pray also that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in the saints,” (Ephesians 1:18).

I feel that you really can’t live life to the fullest until you understand your purpose in being here. God has placed something truly special inside of each and every one of us. He has given us a hope and a future in Him. “For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” (Jeremiah 29:11). It’s time to stop merely existing. It’s time to live in our true purpose and calling so that we can help guide our children to knowing theirs.

Until our next appointed meeting time. Stay tuned for more words of encouragement and inspiration for M.O.M.’s near and far! A Moldy Mess

Hola! I guess I’m feeling a bit of Spanish flare in my spirit today! I am in a really good space this afternoon. Well, I’m always in a pretty good space, but today it’s a bit above the norm for me.

So onto the bloggersation for today… I got a pretty early start to the day this morning because I wanted to thoroughly clean out my dishwasher before going into business mode. I guess I need to share the back story first. A few days ago I noticed that I have a very small mold issue in my dishwasher and I needed to give it a nice scrub, but wasn’t sure on how to get the process underway. Therefore, I went online to research how to get mold out of the dishwasher, using all natural cleaning products of course. Well, soon after the research started it ended with this site http://www.ehow.com/how_4865787_remove-mold-mildew-interior-dishwasher.html.

Mold is nothing to play with so after covering the counters and the floor, “Operation Mold Elimination” was in full effect. I had on my gloves and I was ready to scrub! I figured it would take about 20-30 minutes to get the scrubbing done before running the dishwasher with the suggested cleaners. Well, about 45 minutes into scrubbing I realized that this was going to take a bit longer than I originally thought if I was going to do a first-class job. I started to get a little irritated that it was taking so long because I needed to get my business day started. Then, the Lord showed me something.

God simply allowed me to see that cleaning that mold parallels to how he cleans us when we become saved. When we ask for salvation we have lots of spotty residue all over us that needs to be tenderly scrubbed off and removed. Our sins are immediately washed away but it takes time to get rid of the spots that the sin left behind. Just like mold, these spots can continue to grow and multiply if we don’t truly allow God to do a work in us and really help us get cleaned up. God never gets irritated because it takes time for the spots to go away; He just keeps on loving us and helping to turn our dark spots into shining speckles of light.

When I received this revelation I began to look at cleaning the mold away very differently. I was no longer irritated or tired of scrubbing. I took a few moments to thank God for cleaning up my moldy mess and continued to clean up the moldy mess in my dishwasher. (Disclaimer: There really were only some very small spots of mold throughout the dishwasher, and the safety quality of my home has not been compromised.)

This mold analogy also holds true in parenthood. As our children grow older they will undoubtedly get some “mold spots” in their lives, we just have to be there to show them how to properly engage in “Operation Mold Elimination”. So don’t get irritated when their spots begin to show and grow, just be there to show them love and guide them towards the ultimate scrubbing agent, Jesus Christ. He can even cleanse diseases away. “Jesus reached out his hand and touched the man. “I am willing,” he said. “Be clean!” Immediately he was cured of his leprosy.” (Matthew 8:3)

A Mother's Wisdom

So, I guess I am really on this giving my mom props kick lately. Yes, I know that statement may depict a bit about my background, but hey, I have to stay real to who I am. I was sitting here just a moment ago thinking about all of the wisdom that my mother has been blessed with.

Most of you may not know this, but in addition to being a wife, a mom and running this ministry, I also own two small businesses. Well, on yesterday I had an “issue” to arise with one of my clients and I felt absolutely horrible about a situation that had gone awry. I don’t really want to get into specifics, but let’s say it wasn’t a good look. I have worked for myself in some manner or another for about ten years now and I have always prided myself on offering nothing but the best for my clients.

The situation that occurred on yesterday wasn’t necessarily anyone’s fault, although what happened should not have. When it was brought to my attention, around 7 pm last night, I was totally taken aback. I couldn’t stop thinking about how to make up for what went wrong.
Of course I talked to hubby about it and he offered up some good advice. Although, it wasn’t until I talked to mommie about it that the cloud seemed to dissipate. It’s like that almost every time I share a “mini crisis” with my mom. She always offers such wonderful advice filled with wisdom that I don’t know that I will ever possess.

At the end of my conversation with her I got all teary eyed and said, “What am I going to do when you aren’t here anymore?” Then she said, “By the time I’m gone you will have gained all the wisdom I have and more.” I could’ve cried a river at that moment. Mommie, you are the best!

This is one of the many reasons that it is so important that we cultivate good and OPEN relationships with our children very early on. I have always been able to talk to my mother about ANYTHING. If we aren’t in our kids business and offering them up good and Godly counsel, who will? Although, we must teach them to first seek the counsel of the Lord. “But Jehoshaphat also said to the king of Israel, "First seek the counsel of the LORD.” (2 Chronicles 18:4)

Sunday’s passage read, “I bless you my child, and believe that you will rely on all the energy you receive from God Himself to get along with others. You will help others with encouraging words.” As Christians, it is vitally important that we encourage one another and lift each other up. We should always live life in a peaceful manner and edify one another as brothers and sisters in Christ, “Let us therefore make every effort to do what leads to peace and to mutual edification.” (Romans 14:19)

We all have moments of frustration and irritation, but we must not let these emotions dictate our moods and how we deal with others. No matter what we may be facing or dealing with we should always maintain a positive attitude and walk in love.

I can remember so many times in the past when I took out my personal frustrations on someone else, which is totally unfair. I would lash out at others just because I was having a bad day. I should have been lifting up my brothers and sisters instead of breaking them down.

Now I make it a point to compliment or encourage just about everyone that I come in contact with. I mean, how much energy does it really take to say something nice to another person? You never know how large of an impact this may have on them. When your children sees and hears you doing such things it’s very likely that they will start to do the same.

As parents, we should also encourage and compliment our children. There is no guarantee that they will receive this outside of the home or in the right context. Just in case no one has told you today, “You are beautiful and God loves you beyond anything that you could ever dream or imagine!”

A Father's Day Twist

Happy Monday to all! Since yesterday was Father’s Day, I wanted to dedicate this blog post to all of the single mothers out there that have been holding it down as mother and father. For many years I was raised by a single mother and I feel that credit must be given where credit is due.

First off, I would be remiss if I didn’t say a little something to my mommie (this is the spelling that she prefers-mommie gets what mommie wants). I truly admire my mother for so many reasons, but today I will focus on her dual parentship role (yes, I like to make up words as you can see). My mother and father had the fairytale relationship and wedding, but that all came crashing down when my father became an addict. Due to this sudden and traumatic change in course, my mother had to step into the role of being both mother and father. It was definitely a struggle, but my mother did everything in her power to make sure that I had a proper upbringing.

I am so thankful to God for giving me a strong mother that triumphed in every obstacle that she faced. My mother was blessed with another husband when I was fourteen years of age and has done a wonderful job at filling in that father space. I now have my biological father in my life and we have a great relationship as well. I am so thankful for all of my dads, mom included!

I always appreciated my mother for what she did and the sacrifices that she made, but I didn’t truly understand her plight until I became a mother myself. I have been blessed to have an amazing husband whom fathers my son very well, and motherhood is still an all encompassing job. I can’t begin to imagine what life would be like raising a child without a father. This is why I am taking this time to celebrate all of the single mothers out there.

I pray that God grants you a strength that surpasses all understanding. I pray that you have supernatural uncommon favor with everyone that you come in contact with. I pray that there is always enough money in the bank and enough food on the table. I pray that you have good measures shaken together and running over. “Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you. (Luke 6:38)” I salute you for making the ends meet and loving your children unconditionally. Thanks M.O.M.’s for carrying out your mommie mission no matter what obstacle has come your way and to my M.O.M., thanks for being the best example a mother could be, I love you!

Ministry Update

As most of you all know our Thursday post is usually dedicated to Thursday Prayer. Well, the Lord has been sending great revelation and vision for this ministry and there has been a shift in the direction of Saved M.O.M.

The Thursday Prayer Group will not meet anymore. If you have prayer requests please feel free to submit them via email (info@savemom.com). We will stand with you in prayer, as requested. If you would prefer to have someone pray with you over the phone please submit your request via email along with your telephone number and someone will be sure to get back with you.

I am so exited about where God is taking this ministry. I will keep you all posted on what’s going on once the Lord releases me to do so. I am very thankful that you all have been so supportive in this endeavor.

I read a forwarded email earlier today and the topic was the word guidance. The writer explained the revelation that s/he received on the breakdown of this word. Guidance was broken down into “God”, “U” and “I” Dance! How amazing; God gives us guidance as we dance with him. For us, life is one long dance with God, and I am enjoying the phase of our dance involving this ministry. I am sitting back and God has taken the lead while I follow Him. It’s such a feeling of freedom when you truly submit yourself and let God lead! “Submit to God and be at peace with him; in this way prosperity will come to you.” (Job 22:21). I can’t wait to see all that he has in store. This pair of dancing shoes will never come off!

The Quest

Happy Monday to all! I am so excited about sharing the results of my Farmer’s Market search with you. As most of you all know, as of late I have been on a quest for local grown organic produce. I am making it my priority to eat and feed my family more nutrient dense foods.

I will take a few moments to recap the events that led up to this search. So the Lord has been leading me to do more research about what I am putting in my body so that I can feed my family better and help others lead healthier lifestyles. Well, in my research I found out that most of our produce has traveled a MINIMUM of 1500 miles before reaching our grocery stores and it’s lost at least 60 percent of its nutrient value before we consume it! I assumed that my produce was locally grown because I have shopped at a local organic co-op for several years now. Boy was I wrong! I did some intense question asking and found out that most of my produce had been coming from SOUTH AMERICA! I couldn’t believe it.

Slight side-bar; I also found out that at least 51 percent of the food that we consume in a day should be raw. Did you know that our bodies actually go into automatic defense mode when we eat cooked foods? Therefore, I have been beefing up on the crunchy stuff! You won’t believe what changes my body has experienced. I will expound upon that funny story at a later date. So back to the quest for “The Real McCoy.”

Well, I found out that the best way to purchase organic locally grown is to shop at a local Farmers Market (FM). The FM concept is as follows: farmers and vendors from nearby come out one day a week, usually at an outdoor venue, and set up their tents to sell their products. Over the last couple of weeks my family and I have visited two of these venues and found that there is quite a nice assortment of healthy foods for the taking (cash only of course). There were farmers/vendors selling fruits, veggies, all-natural meats, fresh breads and muffins, free range eggs, natural oils, natural dressings and sauces, natural baked goods, and the list goes on and on.

My favorite was the Sandy Springs Farmers Market (http://www.sandyspringsfarmersmarket.com/), which is located about 30 minutes away from my home. They set up every Saturday from 8:30 am – 12:30 pm, April through December. When I found out that I can’t purchase from the market year-round I was totally bummed. Then I realized that these markets are normally not opened year-round because they can only sell when the harvest is producing. That makes perfect sense, but now I have to figure out what to do during off-peak months. I could a) starve myself for 3 months, b) fast for 3 months (can’t go wrong with that one), c) purchase enough during peak months to freeze and live off of like our ancestors did, or d) go back to eating the nutrient lacking fruits and veggies (I think I would rather starve before doing this). Well, I haven’t made a decision yet, but I will keep you all posted.

Back to the FM experience; as soon as I walked into the “tent circle” I felt like I was totally in my element. It was like an out of body experience for me. I felt like Dorothy in her red shoes once she reached home again. My husband was like, “Wow, look at the people here! You will fit right into this atmosphere.” There were families with their pets in tow. The feel was so loving and free. I felt a little closer to heaven while shopping at the market. I was thinking to myself, “This is how it should be. We should be able to talk to the people that produce the foods we eat and ask the questions that only they can answer.”

For those of you that are wandering about the price, it lines up with that of Whole Foods or a little bit cheaper, but it’s worth every penny! It’s worth sacrificing some of the material possessions if you must so that your holy temple can receive the best possible fuel. “Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own;” (1 Corinthians 6:19). Let me know if you find any FM’s near you that you like. I would love to share your story with our readers.

Until our next appointed meeting time. Stay tuned for more words of encouragement and inspiration for M.O.M.’s near and far! Feature Friday

Congratulations, you made it through another week in the life of a Saved M.O.M.! Here at Savedmom.com we take time out on Fridays to feature Saved M.O.M.’s. There are so many wonderful mothers that don’t get the recognition they deserve. I am delighted to say that this Feature Friday post is dedicated to Kennisha Hill and her 2nd book release. Kennisha was featured on our blog about a year ago. At that time she was releasing her first book, Simply Wisdom. She is a full-time wife, mother of two children under the age of three, writer and singer. Sometimes I wonder just how she does it all!

In discussing the upcoming release of her novel, Awakened, Kennisha said, “I am very excited about this novel! It has been a project of mine for a little over two years. It began with the intent to write a private book about the love story of my husband and I. I honestly had no idea it would change and turn into a beautiful fictional love story!”

Awakened is about Tamara, a woman in her early thirties who is actively seeking the balance of career advancement and love. She already has a great job, but she desperately wants to work for any branch of service or agency for the government. Meanwhile, she is fresh out of a bad relationship with Benjamin, who is a government contractor. She was in this very dramatic relationship for five years, hoping he would marry her. But after he forced her to make the hardest decision in her life and then cheated on her with her best friend, she felt like God was severely punishing her for her mistakes.

She was presented with a great opportunity to work for the Central Intelligence Agency. However, her 8 month long interview process quickly came to an end and she blamed Benjamin for being her greatest distraction. After her rejection, she looses her job- hitting the lowest point she’d ever reached in her life. After counseling with her Christian cousin Richard and her god-mother Carolyn, she agreed with their suggestion of her moving back home for a fresh start. Her relocation back to New Orleans would bring her healing, redemption and a new beginning, although she secretly longed for more closure from Benjamin. But then, she came across Kameron, who was unlike anyone she had ever met; charming, sweet, but also saved. She slowly accepted his interest, but was yet again distracted when Benjamin approached her with another opportunity to fulfill her greatest desire, which is to work for the government. She was then left torn between the decision of choosing love or career, leaving the question of whether or not the best of both worlds exist.

Kennisha explained, “This story hits home in a lot of areas, more specifically for women. There are a lot of single women I know who are seeking career advancement but who are also longing for real love. In this book, I believe the Lord gave me the opportunity to share with them the importance of seeking the Lord in all things and letting go of our own selfish ambitions for the sake of His will. There’s absolutely nothing wrong with having ambition (I’m VERY ambitious) but I do believe that if we delight ourselves in the Lord, he will give us the desires of our hearts.”

Through Tamara’s story, Kennisha’s desire is that it will bring a ray of hope to women who are in a similar situation. She wants this book to encourage these women to keep seeking God and hold on to His word alone. Tamara goes through a period of redemption and sacrifice for it. Redemption is something we can obtain, if we allow the Lord to be the one to truly awaken us to it!

You can pre-order a copy of “Awakened” by visiting Kennisha’s website, http://kennisha-hill.com. Awakened will be released on July 27, 2010. Until our next appointed meeting time. Thursday Prayer

It’s Thursday and you know what that means; today is our designated day of prayer. We will pray together today at 6:30 pm. If you are not able to physically make it to the prayer meeting location you can join us in spirit. We are praying that God’s will is done in the lives of his faithful servants and that millions will receive salvation this year. We will say a special prayer of wisdom, protection, and divine guidance for our leaders, law enforcers and medical providers. Also, let’s not forget to keep Haiti, Chile and China in our prayers in wake of their devastation's. In addition to your prayers please donate whatever you can to aid in their time of need.

As always we will pray that many mothers will be blessed by this ministry and great works will be done through this ministry. We will continue to stand on our weekly prayer points listed below. It is so important that we stand together in prayer, “For where two or three come together in my name, there am I with them.” (Matthew 18:20).

We will continue to pray that love is the motivating force behind EVERYTHING that we do and that we operate in love at ALL times, especially when we don’t feel like it. For the word tells us, “Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins.” (1 Peter 4:8). The word also says, “My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you.” (John 15:12). If we can just learn to love always, no matter what, things will turn out well and happiness will be sure to follow.

Weekly prayer points are as follows…
Our family, friends and loved ones receive salvation and live lives that are submitted to the Lord.
We maintain health and strength in the midst of it all.
The hearts of men are being changed and turning towards the love of God.
Our children are always covered by the blood of Jesus and they make Godly decisions and live submitted lives.
We are continually filled with the heart and mind of Christ Jesus.
We are standing with all the mothers attached to this ministry and mothers worldwide that God’s will be done in their lives.
Thank you for standing with us and lifting up the prayer requests that have been laid before us. Remember to thank Him in advance. God bless you!

Scriptural focus for today's prayer meeting: “For if you forgive men when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you.” (Matthew 6:14)

Until our next appointed meeting time. Stay tuned for more words of encouragement and inspiration for M.O.M.’s near and far!

Saturday’s passage read, “I thank God that you will receive His salvation. He has set out His angels, who are spirit-messengers, to help care for you.” I can remember my mother telling me many years ago that I had to ask for salvation for myself. As a teenager, I didn’t quite understand that salvation had to be personally requested. After my mother explained it to me, I came to the understanding that I had to want salvation for myself. Neither my mother nor my father could “carry me under their salvation umbrella” forever.

Once a person comes of age, salvation must be personally requested by them before they can receive everlasting life. The Lord has made all of us free will agents to make choices and decisions as we wish. Although, it is not God’s desire for us to suffer; He wants us to receive salvation by way of Jesus. “For God did not appoint us to suffer wrath but to receive salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ.” (1 Thessalonians 5:9)

I’m so thankful that my mother explained this very important message to me. As Christian parents we must explain this principle to our children. I would argue that the message of salvation should be our top priority when it comes to raising our children. As we teach them this principle let’s remember that our God is not forceful and neither should we be. We can make daily deposits into our children’s spiritual bank accounts without creating a spiritual overload.

Shattered Glass

Top of the week to each and every one of you! Thanks for your prayers and well wishes during my recovery time over the weekend. So this blog entry pertains to my Monday morning motivation.

So this morning started off a little shaky, but I didn’t think much of it. I still had some residual pain from my procedure on last Thursday and I just didn’t feel much like myself. I was moving a bit slow as I prepared for my workload for the day.

Well, in the midst of getting breakfast in order I noticed that something had spilled in the refrigerator, so I took out the shelf to clean it off. I removed the glass from the shelf and began cleaning it over the sink. About 20 seconds into cleaning the glass, “Kaboom,” suddenly glass popped and shattered all over my kitchen, breakfast nook and into the family room. I was immediately taken aback and realized that I had to get this glass up as quickly as possible and keep the kids away. So after two hours of cleaning glass from every possible surface in these three rooms, vacuuming, wiping down countertops and picking glass out of my finger I was tired, but not defeated.

I realized, in the midst of this situation, that I have really grown over the past few years. Several years ago I would have allowed something like that to have completely destroyed my day and my mood. Of course, I am not happy about what happened, and I will be contacting Frigidaire after blogging, but I still have a smile on my face. I have come to the realization that monkey wrenches will be thrown, but when they are, it's just time to tighten up the loose ends and keep it moving. When the Holy Spirit is completely dwelling in us we don’t have to allow the attacks of the enemy or just plain mishaps to throw us off course. We must continue to fight the good fight of faith and allow the set backs to be faith builders, not faith stealers. “Fight the good fight of the faith. Take hold of the eternal life to which you were called when you made your good confession in the presence of many witnesses.” (1 Timothy 6:12)

This is why it is so important that we maintain a close relationship with God and also keep our bodies healthy. Our bodies don’t manage stressful situations very well when we are nutrient deficient. On next week I will be sure to let you all know how my quest for more nutrient dense food is going.

Sunday’s passage read, “I pray that all the words of your mouth will be righteous, upright and in right standing with God.” We all are quite familiar with the old adage, “Kids say that darndest things.” Although, we must understand that kids usually mimic what they see and hear. If we aren’t doing our part to ensure that our children hear the right things, they will be more likely to say the wrong things. Of course we can’t monitor everything that goes in and out, but we can lay the right foundation and make sure they understand what’s right and what’s wrong. Then we need to correct them when they allow inappropriate things to come out of their mouths.

As adults we also have to watch what we allow to come out of our mouths. At times I hear people say things like; “My head is killing me,” “You make me sick,” and “I’m catching a cold.” We must realize just how much power the tongue has and guard the things that we say. The word tells us, “The tongue has the power of life and death, and those who love it will eat its fruit.” (Proverbs 18:21).

During our quest for speaking what it righteous, we can meditate on Proverbs 8:7-8, “My mouth speaks what is true, for my lips detest wickedness. All the words of my mouth are just; none of them is crooked or perverse.” As we make an effort to watch what we say doing so will help our children learn to say right things as well.
