Word Wednesday

Today is officially “Word Wednesday” otherwise known as “Hump Day.” We’ve made it half way through yet another week on the wonderful, exciting and bumpy road of motherhood. Therefore, some of us are looking for some encouraging words to make it through the rest of the week with Joy and Peace. At night before my son goes to bed, in addition to reading bible stories, I read him a passage out of Prayers That Avail Much, First Blessings for Your Child by Germaine Copeland. Mommies we have to keep our children prayed up and constantly put Gods Word in their hearts.

Saturday’s passage read, “I pray for and bless you, ______ (your child’s name), May God always remain close to you. He is your protection. You will tell your generation about all that God has done.” This passage led me to think about the evangelistic component of our Christian walk. We are ambassadors for Christ Jesus here on earth. The Word tells us, “We are therefore Christ's ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us. We implore you on Christ's behalf: Be reconciled to God.” (2 Corinthians 5:20).

It is my thought, through mere observation, that we often forget about our duty to tell others about the goodness of the Lord. Now, I’m not saying that we should walk around forcing our thoughts and beliefs on others, although, we should make every effort to make God a part of our daily conversations and share His love with others. We all know that our children usually mimic what they see us doing. So, if they see us sharing the love of God and evangelizing, they will be more likely to do the same. I challenge you to start talking about God to someone everyday.

Yesterday’s passage read, “I pray that the God who gives hope will fill you, (your child’s name), with much joy and peace while you trust in Him. Then your hope will overflow by the power of the Holy Spirit. I thank Father God for His Son, born to us for our salvation.” As we all know, on next Friday we will celebrate the birth of our Savior, Jesus Christ! Words cannot even begin to express how thankful and blessed I feel to know that Jesus died so that we can live. As the passage above states, “…His Son, born to us for our salvation.” Jesus became sin so that we could live for all of eternity and enjoy a blessed and abundant life. He became sin so that we could become the righteousness of God. “God made Him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in Him we might become the righteousness of God.” (2 Corinthians 5:21).

At this time of the year people are constantly saying, “Don’t forget the reason for the season.” Although, many people still seem to get caught up in the gifts, decorations, shopping, food, and partying. As parents, it is our duty to make sure that our children understand the TRUE meaning of Christmas. We must also do our part to share the love of Jesus with those that have not yet received salvation. Will you all stand with Saved M.O.M. this Christmas and share the love of Jesus with someone in an effort to lead them into the eternal and abundant life that we have?

Word Wednesday

Sunday’s passage read, “I pray that you will trust in the Lord and be unmoved by any circumstance.” This is a very short passage, but it packs a lot of power. I certainly don’t want to be a fair weather Christian that caves in anytime a trial comes my way and I definitely don’t want to raise children that are that way either. As believers, we have to stand strong on God’s word and walk in faith no matter what. “For we walk by faith, not by sight.” (2 Corinthians 5:7). It’s easy to let circumstances and situations throw us off track, but those are the times that we need to let our faith guide us through.

I still have moments in which I get frustrated and irritated, but I have to soon remind myself that I am a child of God and activate my faith instead of being led by my frustration. This also allows me the opportunity to show my child the proper way to get through in those moments. Lets always trust in the Lord and be unmoved by ANY circumstance.

Stepping Out

It’s the top of the week and once again I am full of joy and excitement! I’m looking forward to all of the wonderful things that the Lord has prepared for us. So, I just got off of the phone with one of my close friends from college. I am so happy for her and proud of what she’s doing. On this weekend we will celebrate the grand opening of her boutique right outside of Atlanta, GA. This blessing has been such a long time in the making and the best is yet to come!

When we were in college she was a Fashion Merchandising major and always had such an incredible knack for fashion. She worked for Macy’s corporate office as a buyer for the past several years. The longer that she worked in that position, the more her yearning for owning a boutique grew. We had several conversations about her stepping out on faith and opening her own store, but fear of the unknown stood in the way. Well, while on maternity leave with her second child earlier this year, she received news that her department was being downsized and that her position would be phased out. Fortunately, there was a great severance package that would help fund her dream!

She was still a little apprehensive about starting the business, but she received so many signs of confirmation from God. In our conversation today she explained how the rest of the pieces of the puzzle came together so easily. I am so blessed to see God’s hand working in her life. This is just another example of how stepping out on faith and binding the spirit of fear can work in your favor! We should always walk by faith no matter what things look or seem like. The word tells us, “For we walk by faith, not by sight.” (2 Corinthians 5:7).

Be Careful

Good Day to all! So, this entry was inspired by yet another intellectually stimulating conversation that my mother and I had not very long ago. We were talking about the fact that so many young girls don’t have positive male role models in their homes. This is true for young boys as well.

It’s so vitally important that young children grow up with positive male role models that are in their lives on a consistent basis. The preference is that these male role models are their fathers. If you think about it and consider the research, the relationships, or lack there of, that a girl has with her father parallels the type of relationships she will have with men in her adulthood. It is also apparent that a boy needs to see a positive male as an example of what being a man means. Our young men are so lost in present times due to the fact that they had no man to show them how to be a man.

So how do we break the cycle? I say simply, “Be Careful.” When you are choosing a man to spend the rest of your life with and procreate with, you must be sure that you all are equally yoked. The word tells us in 2 Corinthians 6:14, “Do not be yoked together with unbelievers. For what do righteousness and wickedness have in common? Or what fellowship can light have with darkness?” Don’t be blinded by a man being nice, or hot, or having lots of money. Look at the inner man and see that his heart is turned towards Christ. Allow the Lord to send you the one that He made just for you.

It wasn’t until I stopped searching for the man that my flesh wanted when the Lord sent me my Boaz. We must completely submit ourselves to the Lord so that he can order our paths. I thought that I could make a man be exactly what I wanted him to be, but boy was I wrong!

For those of you that are already in situations in which the man has not stepped up to the plate in regards to the way that he interacts with his children, please find good male role models for them to interact with. There are lots of mentoring programs available to children today that can help. Maybe Big Brothers, Big Sisters is the way to go or maybe there is a family member that could help out in these instances. You know that old adage, “It takes a village to raise a child.” Well, it’s so true and we all must do our part to make the change that we want to see.
